What branch of service are you asking about? Which uniform? I will answer for USMC uniforms only: Garrison cover (pisscutter) was, indeed, worn by Sergeants in WWII. They *may have* also worn the framed "dress" cover called the Barracks cover. For all USMC uniform info, go to: http://www.marcorsyscom.usmc.mil/sites/mcub/default.asp EDIT: Just heard from *My* Marine who is really in to the history and knows his uniforms. He says BOTH were worn. I have been able to locate pictures of BOTH being worn and will post them here....both are credited as being WWII sergeants.
