Once they've done their 'duty' and politely asked to cease and desist, they've no right to whine about being 'persecuted'.

Believers, Agnostics, and Atheists should all be civil and respectful of one another. Pushing and arguing accomplishes nothing beneficial.

No, because everyone has their different beliefs. Stating your beliefs is one thing, but trying to push it on someone else is wrong.

No. Its downright arrogant and more than a bit bloody rude. If the Jehova's Witlesses or the Morons knock on my door, the normally mild- mannered and polite Bodger has been known to instruct them to go hence and multiply, but in more succinct and colloquial language.

    hell no ;-)
and more so , if they put down other beliefs while doing so .
recruiting with lies , cover ups , misinformation , cola war tactics etc..

they can be stupid and gulible on their own . they dont need friends to be stupid and gullible with them .

and why in the heck would they think that normal educated people would want to lower themselves and remove half their brain to become stupid and gulible, and give up their free will and free thinking to be like them ?

come to my house and start preaching ???, lol ..... pick a window ,,,,, you're leaving . ;-)

No, as a committed God fearing born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ I honestly do not believe it is acceptable to push harrass or attempt to force someone to accept a particular belief. However, its ok to ask and discuss once and a while. As long as the proseleytyzer-(spelling?) respects the wishes of other people who may not want to listen.

No, it's disgusting. Religious people should keep there religious attributes among themselves. I see people preach their religion 1m away from my face, it's so annoying. I feel like slapping them with my newspaper across their face.

I think for a religious person to push someone onto their religion just proves that the religious person's religion is not satisfied with their religion. And by trying to convert them will make them 1% satisfied that their religion is the right religion of all.

People are free to advertise, attempt to persuade, debate, argue, whatever. It is important that people are free to do so.
That gets annoying - because no two people ever agree on absolutely everything.
Legally forcing their religion (or aspects of it) to be taught exclusively (for example) would be wrong - and should be vigilantly guarded against...

    Define "push".

For that matter, define "religious" and "religion".

If opposing the "pushing of ones religion on others" includes silencing the unending harangues, hammering, and ubiquitous propaganda of gay "rights" activists, global warming alarmists, tree huggers, vegans, radical feminists, "diversity" mongers, pc nazis, rabbid secularists, Socialists, and advocates of nationalized health care, then I'm all for it.

Okay. Although I will allow no one to brain wash me, as at this point in time I know what is what. Or at least I believe I do.

Another thing is, I feel like I must respect others for their religious or other views. How many times I heard that old lady who I met in a park or square that felt I needed to know her truth, or the truth of her believe.

Countless times that happened to me. And, every single time I did —and will— allow others to express the religious views, hear them, instead of opposing them to speaking up their believe. In many instances I did counter comment their views and asked them to understand my point. Most of them did hear what I was trying to say and it was a very good exchange for both parts.

I wouldn't go out there saying that your religion is wrong or that you are wrong yourself for believing a concept you cherish as a matter of tradition.

Basically, who am I to say you are wrong or who am I to say you are right?

In time any habitant of this planet will have their own opinion as what is and what isn't. For that, it takes only one thing: time.

What do you mean by pushing their religion? Sharing their beliefs about how God wants us to behave and treat others, in the hope that they will find some enlightenment? Like Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi pushed theirs on people? Do you believe they should have remained silent and not pushed their beliefs on others?

Or do you mean like atheists attacking the concept of God on billboard and buses (http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2010/03/athiest_ads_coming_soon_to_sma.html)?

    How do you define "push"?

Some people considered Jesus' public preaching to be pushing his religion on others. Others considered MLK's public preaching to be pushing his religion on others. Both were killed because of perceived "pushing" their religion on others.

I personally think more of Jesus and MLK than I do those who killed them because of being disturbed by their message.

    It is a difficult one.
It is right for many religious people, because sharing their faith is an intrinsic part of their belief. It is like asking if it is right for telemarketers to phone you at home and try to sell you their products - that is their job, it is what they are employed to do.
Some faiths encourage adherents to go out there and share their beliefs, and it would be wrong to judge them too harshly for following what they believe to be right.
Similarly, many faiths believe that they are the one true faith - and so adherents do want to share their message. They often are genuinely afraid that people who are not members of their group will suffer some kind of damnation, and it is out of concern for friends, neighbours that they feel they have to convert everyone they meet.

Having said all that, it is darned annoying! So please stop!

bagicide stayed 10 months too long

Well, that depends. Are they holding a gun to your head? Tarring and feathering you? Stoning you? Hanging you? Throwing acid on you? Yes, I would say that is wrong. That is what is done to Christians in some other countries for daring to become Christians in a Muslim world or a Communist world. Muslims and Communists frequently see conversion to Christianity as a threat and they will do real physical harm to people for converting. They don't like competition. They are also known to use prison, or losing a job or a home to try to "persuade" people to change back.

    http://www.persecution.com/

Now, if by pushing religion on you, you mean talking to you, then I'd have to disagree with you. That is what the Constitution means by freedom of speech and freedom of religion. It does not mean freedom FROM religion or freedom From speech. It also depends on whether heaven and hell are real places. I mean, if its all fiction, then so what? But if they are real places, and you don't want to spend an eternity in hell, then it may matter very much to you that someone does talk to you about Christ. I didn't like it much when family members did it to me when I was growing up in an atheist home and attending atheist/secular humanist public schools, but I'm really glad they did it now.

And lastly, if you are complaining about people talking about religion on Answerbag, it's very simple: don't click on their questions. You have complete freedom to not look at anything on AB. You don't have to read any answers you don't want to read. You can just skip it. But clearly a lot of people do want to read it, because it is a constant theme of conversation on here. It was that way when I came and I'm sure it will be that way when I leave. Everyone says don't talk about politics or religion in polite company, but that certainly seems to have bottled up a lot of conversation which bursts out here.

  • by bns0003 on March 29th, 2010

    bns0003

Well most religions believe that if you don't believe their way that you will go to Hell or whatever, so they are simply trying to help you, even though it may come off as slightly pushy.

Please, by all means have all... the Atheists proselytize us all.
Mormons come to your door and knock, a little conversation a little harmless talk.
They plant flowers all day long, and harvest with the night song.
The Atheists bring you fumes of death, with every genocidal breath.
Smell the flowers? No? Well you can always smell the death powers.
Like a ring of death, Atheist's spread their dominion's wreath.
Like a cancer it will choke you, like a plague it will kill you.
Step on the roses... embrace Marx's deceptive poses.
Bow to the Idle. Worship a professors title.
Breath into a Cambodian bag. A communist laughs, she is a hag.
Smell the smoke, goose-step until you choke.
    Atheism. Atheism. Atheism.
    March. March. March.
    Death. Death. Death.
One hundred million here... ten million there.
But you don't care, as long as Stalin shares.
Death comes in pairs, and life has stairs.
Open the door to Atheists and breathe the breath.
Shut the door on the truth is it truth?
Darwin or Jesus you make your choice.
Either way they will take you home in a Rolls Royce.
Now get a drum, and take your guitar and strum. The drum. The drum. The drum.
    The final Drum. Drum. Drum.
    And then your heart stops.
And the only thing your hear, as you kiss away life like a tear.
Is the beating of a drum drum drum.
Now you know where you came... From. From. From.
Life's choices get edited and now you know the Sum. Sum. Sum.
And you hear the dramatic truth, the reverberating symphonic truth.
Of everything in your life, all the good and also all the strife.
The drum always tells the truth. And like a bullet is so smooth
So listen. Yeah listen. Listen. Listen.
    Forever and ever.
    Dramatically and Symphonically .
    Yeah listen. Yeah please listen.
To something that sounds like a beating heart. Is the guilt tearing you apart?
All the Atheist liars, all the millions of Atheist Murders
    Godless Communism, Ann Rand Capitalism
    Murder, Murder, Murder
in the darkness, against those with meekness.
Genocide. Society suicide. Now you take the final ride.
So listen. Oh yeah... you will listen.
Someday when your heart stopped. And your life force hopped.

To the eternal judgement, Yeah the eternal Judgement...
Hear your life story in the rhythm, hear your life story in the...

    DRUM!! DRUM!! DRUM!!
    DRUM!! DRUM!! DRUM!!

many people who 'push' beliefs on people believe that the only way someone can reach heaven is for them to be part of their religion therefore in thier mind this is the most loving thing someone can do, but i believe that while we are living in a multi faith society people shouldnt be presured to join a certain religion they should have the information and resorces avalible to choose a religion or reject the idea of religion altogether.

What exactly do you consider "push?" If you mean by push, hitting someone over the head with a Bible then flood you with their self-proclaimed righteousness then I agree, it's not right. However if you mean by push, answering questions about God, the Bible, Jesus Christ, etc, with Christian and Biblical answers then I would have to disagree. This is, after all, a question and answer forum. Atheists answer Bible questions and Christians answer atheist questions.

If you feel that Christians spend to much time in the atheist section "pushing " their religion on you then perhaps you should send a message to the atheists that wander into the religious section of AB and tell them to keep their uninformed and rude comments to themselves and stop shoving their unbelief onto the Christians. It's a double-edged sword and can cut both ways.

No, and i am a Christian. I believe that if u have a religion, you can talk to the others about it and give them something 2 think about, but not to pressure them about it and force them 2 believe what u believe.

  • by Lucky67 on March 29th, 2010

No, it's not right, because god don't tell anybody or god don't advice anybody to push someone to their religions. Even any religion books didn't mentioned about pushing someone to religions too, only selfish people push others to religions for their selfishness.
