Help answer this question below.
It is an anglicisation of an irish phrase, used these days almost solely by americans who think they are irish, or who have irish roots somewhere in the dim and distant past, but who have never visited Ireland or paid more than a passing interest in the country except to change the saints day celebration into a drunken brawl, confusing saint Patrick with a bunch of shamrock bearing leprauchauns. What would St Patrick think of how he is immortalised in green beer and brawling? And would he laugh at the annual consumption of boiled beef with cabbage, knowing that the irish peasant would never have been able to afford beef? Or would he just smile wryly at how his message has become distorted in an alcohol infused parade of psuedo-nationalism for a country that was long abandoned when it could not provide for those who left it behind in the search for something better?
Erin go bragh? Éire go Brách? or even Érin go Brea?
Why would anyone want to praise a country they left behind? Ireland for ever! As long as I don't have to live there!
Erin, go by your own bra you can keep wearing mine all the time.
I spotted st. patrics day has turned into st.patrics week, here in the uk it is a sign of binge drinking more than religion. Is it in US?
