    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

On One Hand: Energy Boost and Antioxidants

Coffee is well known for its most famous ingredient, caffeine, a stimulant that helps to boost energy and increase mental alertness and focus. According to Donald Hensrud, chair of the Division of Preventive, Occupational and Aerospace Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, coffee may also be the top source of health-preserving antioxidants for those that drink it.

    On the Other: Potentially Addictive

Caffeine is a stimulant that may be addictive. When some individuals stop drinking caffeinated beverages, they can experience withdrawal symptoms, including headaches and irritability. Drinking lots of coffee during pregnancy has been associated with low birth weight and a higher incidence of miscarriage.

    Bottom Line

For healthy people, coffee does not endanger health and may offer the benefits of antioxidants and improved mental function. However, if you suspect that you may have any health condition that could be affected by coffee drinking, you should discuss your personal health profile with your physician.

in excess, anything can be harmfull to the body.
That said, caffiene is a diuretic...meaning, if you drink too much of it, without making up for it with more water, it will dehidrate you. Which is harmfull to the body. Same with any caffinated bevrage.

My rule is this...i need 8, 8oz glasses of water a day (which is about 4 water bottles), to be well hidrated. However, for every caffinated bevrage i drink i add another 8oz glass of water, to counter the effects of caffiene. So, if i have 2 cups of coffee, and a diet coke, i have to drink 11 8oz glasses of water as well (or 5 and a half bottles).

There are other reasons caffiene can be bad for your health, but this is the most commonly overlooked.

coffee is potentially addictive and it can also cause issues with digestion and ulcers bcs it is acidic, and also increase heart rate which is not always a good thing.
Also it stains your teeth which is just icky.
