Help answer this question below.
Muscle growth is dependent on food, rest and work. Alcohol interferes with the production of human growth hormone (HGH), a naturally occurring chemical found in the body that promotes muscle growth. Additionally, a number of other physiological effects take place such as a lack of quality sleep, the depletion of vitamin and mineral nutrients and the impedance of protein synthesis needed for muscle repair after workouts.
The effects of alcohol impair judgment and make operating equipment from weights to automobiles risky. It also negatively impacts physical performance for as much as 48 hours after light consumption due to reduced strength, coordination, increased fatigue and more. All of these influence the performance of athletes who are in training or competition.
While many people active in weight training and fitness do not seem concerned with the negative effects of alcohol on body mass, those at the pinnacle of fitness and bodybuilding are highly disciplined in their training regimes. There is no disputing the scientific facts that alcohol impairs human physiology, and those who train seriously separate--or avoid entirely--drinking while training.
