They put the sign where the deer habitually cross. They choose it by an algorithm that calculates deer sightings near certain locations, and that is where the sign is placed. Either that, or years of intense training.

Usually it doesn't say, "deer x-ing," it usually says something more like, "deer x-ing next 5 miles". And sometimes someone will put a little red sticker on the nose of the deer picture so it looks more like Rudolph x-ing.

thats why they have the picture' cause the deer can't read.

They usually just start driving around and when they slam into one with the sign truck, they put up a new sign.
