    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Allergies can cause many problems for your dog, including extreme itching. This is a common problem, and is easily treated by your veterinarian and simple home remedies.

    Medicated Baths

A bath in cool water and colloidal oatmeal, Epsom salts or medicated shampoo can temporarily relieve itching associated with allergies.

    Injections

Allergy shots are an option to relieve your dog's itchy allergies. These shots are given over the period of several months with 70 to 75 percent effectiveness at relieving allergy itch.

    Corticosteroids

Corticosteroids can be given orally and topically in pill or cream forms to relieve itch. When given orally for long periods of time, they may result in serious medical conditions such as diabetes, so they are best used in the short term.

    Antihistamines

Antihistimines such as Benadryl or Tavist relieve itchy allergy symptoms, but should only be given under the advice of a veterinarian.

    Supplements

Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are an all-natural way to relieve inflammation due to itchy allergies. If your dog suffers from severe itching, these supplements may not be the most effective means of treatments.
