A bath in cool water and colloidal oatmeal, Epsom salts or medicated shampoo can temporarily relieve itching associated with allergies.
Allergy shots are an option to relieve your dog's itchy allergies. These shots are given over the period of several months with 70 to 75 percent effectiveness at relieving allergy itch.
Corticosteroids can be given orally and topically in pill or cream forms to relieve itch. When given orally for long periods of time, they may result in serious medical conditions such as diabetes, so they are best used in the short term.
Antihistimines such as Benadryl or Tavist relieve itchy allergy symptoms, but should only be given under the advice of a veterinarian.
Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are an all-natural way to relieve inflammation due to itchy allergies. If your dog suffers from severe itching, these supplements may not be the most effective means of treatments.
