JavaScript is a scripting language used by many website creators to enhance their site. Netscape and Sun Microsystems presented JavaScript to the world in a joint announcement in December 1995. Most browsers run JavaScript effortlessly, but tighter security settings could mean your Firefox browser has JavaScript turned off. Many sites now require JavaScript active to see all the features and use their site. Turning this feature on, or off, in Firefox is easily accessible. Open your Firefox web browser and let the menu items and home page open fully. On your top menu, click your mouse on the "Tools" menu. It is located between "Bookmarks" and "Help." If you cannot see these menu items, hold down your "Alt" key and press the letter "T" to open Tools. From that pull-down menu, choose "Options." A shortcut for Options is to press and hold "Alt" while pressing the letter "O". The menu at the top of the Options page gives you choices to click. Choose "Content" tab. In most Firefox browsers, this is located between "Tabs" and "Applications." For selection with your keyboard, press the right arrow key until "Content" is highlighted. Click the small white box to put a checkmark beside "Enable JavaScript."This will turn JavaScript on. To turn it off, simply remove the checkmark with a click. Keyboard actions to perform this task are holding "Alt" and pressing the letter "J." Netscape: 28 industry-leading companies to endorse JavasciptEnabling JavaScript in Firefox
Clicking the "Advanced" button or hold "Alt" and press "V" to the right of the JavaScript selection will give advanced options. Use these to determine what JavaScript is allowed to do. Some options include move or resize existing windows, disable or replace content windows, hide the status bar and change status bar text. Once your selections have been made, click "OK" or hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard) to close the Options window. Close and reopen Firefox (restart) to ensure all changes take effect.
JavaScript, like any scripting language, can allow malicious programs to harm your computer. Some people, for this reason, prefer to run with JavaScript off in Firefox, only turning it on when a needed for a specific site.Source:
