Just an idea, but if you are concerned for your safety, you may want to pick a different item to protect yourself. Maybe get a bat and keep it under your bed. This way you will not have the temptation of using the knife, and you will be showing your family that you are trying to change your habits.

I would advise that you could ask a friend or someone you trust to simply hold the blade for awhile UNLESS your step dad or your Moms BF is a threat to you.

IF you are under 18 I would suggest talking to a school councilor your trust, a minister, someone else you trust... Depression can kill you if you try to conquer it yourself...

Look up Perrystonejr.org (Voice of evangelism) for SPIRITUAL help with depression & other types of mental attacks.

I too dealt with depression, suicidal fantasies & ideas amoung other things... Relationship with God is one way to deal with bad choices & other types of problems...

you're not alone with having cutting problems. It's a real psychological disorder, which CAN be treated with a little counseling. Your family/friends are just looking out for you.
I beg you to read this website:

Why do you keep a knife in your room? You don't need a knife for "protection".

Because that was your drug' of choice 'so to speak -- Someone who stops drinking doesn't want a case of beer in the house -- Get a puppy to bark and protect you that way - Not a knife

My worry is what do you need a knife in your room to protect you from?
They are just worried about you. Being a cutter does not go away instantly and if you have access to a knife like that the temptation can be too strong. For you own sake you should get rid of the knife and know that the people who don't trust you yet are only doing it out of love. Keep strong and keep working at it. Soon they will see that you are getting better. Good luck!
