When I gained 10 pounds suddenly and it didn't go away I panicked and temporarily revamped my diet and started walking out more and stopped at the gym when I could. Yes it is a problem. I see the health problems my mother has and I do not want to have them too when I am older.
  • I'm male 5' 10" and I weigh 165lbs. I could stand to lose a little weight, but I used to weigh 180lbs and was about 5' 7" so things are improving :P I'll admit though that I do not get enough exercise, and like many americans, Convenience leaves fast food or something microwaveable as the only options often. a lot of people don't think its a problem. Its not just image, You can't look like the anorexic models in the magazines, most of them are underweight, and usually in my opinion disgusting.Parents having to work more, Kids attending college, and people trying to juggle a near impossible life style leaves little time for anything but quick food, instead of eating something healthy and quick, many get fast food, or microwave something. Our busy lives also leave little time for exercise. Some of it is just pure laziness. If it continues, the national life expectancy will start dropping, because people who are obese put so much stress on their heart and other organs. I have started to try to eat healthy more, take vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and herbs to help make up a little for when I don't. I invite friends on walks as much as I can, and often go on a walk at around 12 am for about a mile, and run back. I also take time a couple times a week to do something Soothing, like a bubble bath, because stress can really affect your metabolism and your health in general.

  • I'm female, 98 lbs and 5' 2", could pack on a few, it's hard for me to do.
  • 33 yr old male 5'11" 145 lbs and yes I definitely think we are in an obesity epidemic! Everything is super size, no one has any idea of portions they should eat, more and more are getting diabetes earlier in life and our society only nurtures lazy people who do nothing but stuff their face and buy stuff..consumerism at it's most efficient. I am very conscious of what I eat but I see it everyday people eating themselves to death, and what's worse is when they allow their kids to become the same way, I see 9 yr old kids that weigh more than I do. I think that should be considered child abuse.
  • I am a male, about 195 pounds, 5'9". Now obesity is an epidemic in this country for several reasons. First, we have the option of super-sizing that french fry order, this adding more carbs to an already fat meal. Second, we are so busy trying to keep up with the Jones's that both husband and wife work, so a healthy, home cooked meal is out of the question. Third, We, as a culture have developed some very bad habits when it comes to eating. We buy fast food, and sit in front of the TV and eat it. Or we buy chips and wine, and sit in front of the TV and eat it. Sitting in front of the television and eating is a major cause of obesity. How about families that insist you clean your plate. Another great cause for obesity. I know a man who can eat the equivalent of 4 people because his family forced it on him. He is now almost 200 pounds overweight.
  • I am female, 5'2" and my weight is 115-120. (pregnancy being the exception but I have returned to my normal weight after each baby) Obesity is a problem in our country because we eat poorly. (Highly refined sugars and bleached white bread with ZERO nutritional value leave us more hungry than when we started eating! Hydroginated oils..if we take time to read the labels..are in almost everything and are nearly impossible to digest as well)
