    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

According to Armstrong World Industries, rubber-backed mats or rugs should not be placed over hardwood flooring. Rubber-backed mats trap moisture, which can result in discoloration of your hardwood. Use a vinyl rug underlay to protect hardwood flooring from rug damage.
