HIV cannot be spread through casual contact. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) says casual contact such as touching a doorknob, sharing a glass, shaking hands or other similar behavior will not transmit the virus.
Take standard precautions. If there is blood on the doorknob due to an accident, precautions such as wearing gloves and avoiding contact should be taken.
HIV is not transmitted by touching a doorknob. HIV is not transmitted through air or food, and will not survive for long outside of the body.
