Movie reviews offer a basic plot outline of the movie, featured actors and a critique of the movie. Most reviews stay away from giving away key parts and address the genre, such as discussing if a horror movie is actually scary.
Movie reviews are usually graded on a scale. Typical scales include 1 to 5 stars, grades A through F, or word-based scales, such as "must see," "worth a rental" or " bomb."
Traditionally, movie reviews are found in newspapers, but technology has expanded on this. The ReelzChannel features shows that exclusively review movies, and websites such as Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb and JoBlo are specifically dedicated to movie reviews.
A movie's reviews can help or hinder its box office numbers. This has led many movie companies to avoid the screening of movies. Typically this applies to horror movies, because they rarely receive good reviews.
One of the most famous movie review duos is Siskel and Ebert. Their famous rating scale ranged from "two thumbs up" to "two thumbs down." Along with written reviews, the two hosted their own show with movie clips and reviews of future releases.
