  • Ouzo is the traditional licorice flavored beverage, but it is made with anise, a milder herb that tastes like licorice. Although I have not sat down and compared, I would suggest a relatively new liqueur, Black Sambuca, has a more intense licorice flavor than ouzo. There is also White Sambuca, but it doesn't have the same strength of flavor.
  • The most licorice flavour you would get from a Finnish drink "Salmiakkikoskenkorva" or "Salmari". To prepare home made salmari, you need a bottle of vodka or koskenkorva and about 300grams of a pepper candy called Tyrkisk peber. Crush the candies and add them to the vodka. Shake well and let stand for a day or two, until the candies have dissolved completely. Enjoy! • The most intense flavour must come from the southern French drink known as Pastis. The flavour is so intense that it is normally consumed mixed 1 part to 5 parts water - it is undrinkable straight. As with Pernod, it is clear out of the bottle, but changes to a cloudy yellow colour when mixed with water. (Pernod is similar in flavour intensity to Sambuca and Ouzo containing liquorice.) Bon appétit.
