  • Unless your policy specifically states it will cover this situation, the answer is no. An auto insurance policy does not cover mechanical problems/parts to begin with and it also does not cover you in the event you are a victim of fraud. If you paid for this with a credit card, you might have some protection there. Call your credit card company and ask, you might be surprised. If you have a property policy (Renter's, Homeowner's, or Condo) you might also have some coverage under fraud protection (this is unlikely and the coverage is usually optional or minimal). You can file a claim with Ebay and see if they can help. I know they have some sort of optional protection you can buy at the time of purchase, but I have no idea how that works or what is covered. Unfortunately, you are probably out of luck in terms of using your auto insurance to cover this loss. Call your company and ask though, you never know. Sorry this happened to you. Good luck.
  • I agree with andersen777. only adding this example....if you are the owner of a pawn shop and unknowingly take in stolen property for pawn, the police can recover the pawned, stolen property and the pawn dealer is just out of luck. its a gamble they take. same applies in your situation with the purchased auto engine on ebay. i don't believe your auto insuace will cover this situation. check your policy.
