Help answer this question below.
Acapulco and Tijuana, Mexico.
Acapulco is now a drug dealers haven and crime is rampant. last year, homicides approached the 2,000 mark.
Tijuana is filthy and women sleep on the streets and try to sell Americans, their children. and, you will never see a dog. why?
NOT recommended.
I am probably going to get some negative feed back for this. I would say, don't go to New Orleans. The French Quarter stinks! The smell was nauseating. And there are endless souvenir shops filled mostly with the same old useless junk.
And if you have kids, beware. There are a lot of prostitutes walking the sidewalks.
I haven't been there since the hurricane.
Kissimmee, Florida. Home of the tourist ghetto. If you're coming to do Disney, spend the money and stay on property; their hotels are very nice and it really can be a magical stay.
If you want bad food, filthy motels, $1.99 T-shirts, shell lamps and thieves stealing your stuff (and using your credit cards), come on down. We're glad to take your money and use it for rims and drugs.
bagdad. you know why.

Youngstown, Ohio, I love the place, it's my home town, but please, it's also known as murder city, and little chicago. Not to mention it's run down and one of the most boring places on earth!
Kashmir (sadly). The chances of getting shot are doubled with both India and Pakistan shooting it out.
Oklahoma, you wont be amused. Its flat and we havent much to offer unless you like praries (and cows!)
Don't go to all-inclusive resorts. In Jamaica, for example, all-inclusive resorts are a very popular vacation destination for newly weds and couples and families. But the all-inclusive experience is creepy. The cultural encounters are contrived and fake, the "crafts" are not local, but imported from factories that provide cheap labor, food is also imported, and the only contact you will have with any Jamaicans are when they are serving you (it is eerily reminiscent of what a slave society might have been like, to see all the hundreds of white visitors lounging on the sand being served by Jamaicans). Also, the all-inclusives rob the surrounding communities of their resources. Water is scarce in Jamaica, and many of the villages around resort towns lack water and electricity on a regular basis because the resorts get first priority. The ocean water around Negril is completely devoid of sea life because of all the chemical run-off from the resort complexes.
Try community tourism options instead. In a community tourism set-up, your family can stay in a guest house or rent a room from a local family, eat local food, learn about the country, and still do exciting touristy things like visit waterfalls, lounge on the beach, and take in the fabulous scenery.
Atlanta, Georgia... crime capital of the world.
America. The richest country in the world doesn't need your tourist money, spend it on people who need it in a poorer country.
I would have to say Flint, Michigan. I live south of this little gem and have been followed home from there, almost car jacked in a traffic jam...I guess why it holds the honor of the third most dangerous city in America. Detroit being #1, which stinks.
Afghanistan , just a load of boring mountains. Great if you want to play hide and seek though.
Sudan, Africa. At least, not for another few years. :(
Gaza
Baghdad
Chechnya
Bermuda triangle
Haiti - hands down the scariest place I have ever been, and I have been there four or five times and get scared all over again starting WEEKS before each trip.
The Haitians are so desperately poor and the Govt so uncaring - anarchy reigns and I kid you not, I see places and situations there which make the worst slums of Asia look like Beverly Hills in comparison.
Im an avid traveller, I think everywhere is worth a visit, at least once.

You'll be washing spit out of your hair for the next year.
Cairo. Dirty, smelly, corrupt and ugly. Everybody wants one thing, your money. They were the most greedy and corrupt people I've ever met. They will con you, rip you off and steal from you. I understand that the Egyptians outside of Cairo are completely different, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The only good thing in that city are the pyramids, just avoid getting ripped off getting there, getting in and leaving.
Chernobyl.
I'd advise against Iraq.
MEADE, KS. Just trust me on this one.
eastern europe
Instanbul! hated being awaken each morning at 5 am by the 'call to worship'...I swear the loud speaker was pointed at my 4-star hotel window! and the 'toilets' were an 'experience' NOT to be experienced again!
Mainland Mexico, they are on the brink of civil war, the government is near collapse and it is not a safe place to be. The violence is spilling over in a big way into the southwestern states of the U.S.
It's bad, and is going largely ignored. I wouldn't go to Mexico if you paid me to.
Savannah, GA. It is severely over-rated and over-priced. There is no southern charm to be found, homeless are camped out in the squares (parks) and the gardens and town are generally unkempt.
If you want the old south experience, go to Charleston, SC instead.
Branson, Missouri. I live really close to it and I really don't see why people vacation there. It's awful.
And Eureka Springs, Arkansas is another tourist town really near where I live too. It's not that great.

Mexico... Bad press...
Islamic countries... Too much hate towards USA & Europe!
Mexico.... Too many bad news storys about the place...
Middle East.... Too many Religious ANTI American & ANTI Europe idiots! :-(
I dont think I would ever tell anyone not to go somewhere. Everyones experience is different and everyone has their own idea of what constitutes a good holiday.
I think all you can do is if someone asks, tell them of your experience and let them make up their own mind. Your opinion is really only that, an opinion and people should do their own research and investigate different opinions before making up their own mind.
I have one friend who loves travelling to third world countries and exploring the culture and people. I have another friend who only likes swanky hotels and good shopping! Neither is wrong in what they want from a holiday, they just have different ideas and expectations!
Winnipeg, Manitoba. It's ugly, extreme weather, lots of mosquitos and downtown is very sketchy, it's the Canadian murder capital and it's full of vagrants and solvent sniffers everywhere, not to mention the many young Gansta wannabes. I lived there few years and still wonder why.
The City of Baghdad.
Caesar's Palace, Poconos... not sure how it is now as its been about 4 years but this place was outdated, over-rated and very expensive!
Branson Missouri...I hated it there.
The Atlantis hotel in the Bahamas, unless you like being ripped off for every little thing. They charge a daily fee to use the pool whether you use it or not. In addition, you get a fee added for the guy that brings up your bags after you've already tipped him. The restaurants are ridiculously expensive and the service is poor. Good luck at the airport on a crowded day! If your going in that direction, you might as well just go to Miami.
Sweden, many people there are very racist against foreigners, not everybody but a good few of them.
Afganistan
Pakistan
Iraq, Mexico, Turkey, or South America.
Avoid Mexico because of a rampant drug war.

I agree, Tijuana is a dirty place and I've never stayed overnight, but it's actually a pretty good place to go lose yourself for a day. If you can stand the grittiness.
by Gideon on April 10th, 2007
Yes I would agree to some extent. I found it interesting for daytime trips. I wouldn't stay into the evening though.

Why no dogs? Am confused
by Miss Cookie Monster on April 20th, 2007
I've heard they eat dogs. I don't believe that though. I saw dogs many times. And I never had anyone try to sell me a kid. lol
by - retroglide - on April 20th, 2007
Visited Acapulco last November for a week, had a great time, no problems with drug dealers, criminals for killers.
Tijuana is a bit trashy but has some nice resturants. Have not seen women sleeping in the streets, but have seen dogs on the street.
by jllams on April 25th, 2007
whats the matter with bums and drug dealers i find them quite pleasant haha
by mediaskate648 on May 10th, 2007
And, unfortunately, the norm in some parts of some US cities.
by nowImconfused on May 25th, 2007
indeed! we may as well add san francisco to the list if we are going to look at things that way! (as far as u.s cities having those same issues!)
by APACHEmeansENEMY on June 28th, 2007
What are you guys talking about, San Francisco is not that bad. Yes some parts are bad but not that bad.
by emily0x0 on June 30th, 2007
In Tijuana, a woman approached my wife and i and attempted to sell us her baby. we were shocked. the children were constantly running up to us to sell us pot. we do not smoke pot. men and women were sleeping in the streets and we had to walk over many of them. if you are ever arrested in Tijuana, here is what to expect....a dirt floor, a bucket to pee in, newspapers for a blanket at night and if you are lucky...some food that will give you the runs. then, you can use the bucket. a small offense can land you many days in jail. forget about a phone call and an attorney. do we treat the illegal immigrants in America this way????????
by Anonymous on June 30th, 2007
try visiting a sro hotel in san franciscos tenderloin. true..you wont find women selling babies (or at least I didnt encounter that) But during my time working as an outreach worker in the tenderloin I encountered people living in shocking conditions. It would be almost impossible to describe in a way that would accuratley translate the horror of the conditions I saw. The people living in these hotels are often disabled. Of course these are things one would never see as a tourist..but I felt it was important to bring up that people in our own country are living in these conditions...
by APACHEmeansENEMY on July 2nd, 2007
But we have safety nets for the disabled. I'm in CA and my son is disabled and he draws SSI thank God. I wonder why the people you describe do not avail themselves of services. There's really no reason anyone has to live that way.

Yeah, I have worked for years with homeless and disabled in San francisco..there is plenty of reason why people don't use these services...number one would be that supply doesn't equal demand. I agree, there isn't any reason why someone would have to live that way...but the harsh reality is that they do....and its really easy for people to turn a blind eye and say things like its a choice they made or that services are available...but its just not that simple.
by APACHEmeansENEMY on January 30th, 2008
What's your best suggestion that the public could do for homeless people? I hand out gift cards for food, but find that many are alcoholics and/or mental. Our laws were changed when Reagan was govenor with the 72 hour hold. I especially hate to see homeless women because physically they look so much more vulnerable. We have many shelters around here. What could I do that would be beneficial without making a career out of it? I volunteer for other issues.
by shammers still slogging along on January 30th, 2008
I think handing out food is a great thing to do. i often suggest that to people who don't have much time or money. Volunteering of course is another excellent way to help. What part of Ca. are you in?
by APACHEmeansENEMY on January 30th, 2008
Southern. Live in Seal Beach between Long Beach and Huntington.
by shammers still slogging along on January 30th, 2008
ah, ok..I'm not as familiar with the programs there...what issues do you volunteer for if you don't mind my asking?
by APACHEmeansENEMY on January 30th, 2008
Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic . . . I'm a reader. I really enjoy it. Reading textbooks and materials for students to study from. I also help with food distribution on holidays sometimes. My commitment is to RFBD.
by shammers still slogging along on January 30th, 2008
thats really cool! Thats an awesome thing to do.
by APACHEmeansENEMY on January 30th, 2008
I never knew about it until I saw it on Huell Howser's California's Gold on PBS. He's so amusing. Anyway, I just wrote the number down and called. Tackling the computer part to record is not easy for me, and it's more complicated than it sounds as one has to describe tables and contents in boxes, very detailed reading. But I love it!
by shammers still slogging along on January 30th, 2008
Thats great. i think volunteering is an awesome thing to do...it helps others as well as yourself. My whole career started with a 2 hour a week volunteering commitment...it opened my eyes and opened doors at the same time!
by APACHEmeansENEMY on January 30th, 2008
