New Life Agency is a medical insurance company specializing in surrogate pregnancy or any pregnancy conceived via in vitro fertilization. This medical plan can be purchased as a primary insurance policy or as a back-up policy in addition to a major medical plan.
A surrogate medical plan requires a $1,050 enrollment fee, plus a $5,000-$11,000 premium, dependent on policy choice. The policy sets a $500,000 maximum payable for claims, and a $50,000 maximum for in-patient hospital bed rest.
The policy will remain in place for a duration of 18 months from the six-week ultrasound, allowing a span of time to cover pregnancy and postpartum recovery in the case of any post-birth complications.
The policy excludes coverage for more than two fetuses. It provides coverage for up to four ultrasounds per pregnancy, and denies coverage for amniocentesis. Claims are paid only when care is provided within the U.S., and there is no coverage for preexisting conditions.
This policy limits financial liability in the event that the surrogate does not have primary coverage and carries a complicated pregnancy. The plan also mitigates the risk that the surrogate's insurance company denies claims up till 2 years after the birth.
An uncomplicated pregnancy with vaginal delivery will cost substantially less than the plan's required premium and deductible. But it is impossible to predict if a pregnancy will progress uneventfully and end with a standard vaginal birth.
