Gunpowder tea---also known as pearl tea---is a type of Chinese green tea that tastes slightly minty and smoky. In spite of its name, it does not actually contain gunpowder. It is called gunpowder tea because its tightly rolled tea leaves look like gunpowder pellets.

    Amount Requires

Most studies examining the health benefits of green teas like gunpowder tea are based on the consumption of three cups per day. However, as little as one cup per day does provide some benefits.

    Antioxidants

Green tea is the least processed type of tea and contains the highest levels of antioxidants, which help promote health by fighting free radicals. Because of its tightly rolled shape, gunpowder tea is more concentrated than other green teas.

    Indigestion

Gunpowder tea helps with indigestion and other digestive problems.

    Mental Focus

Gunpowder tea stimulates mental and muscular response to help you organize and get things done.

    Cancer

Like all green teas, gunpowder tea contains polyphenols, which can increase the effectiveness of cancer treatment. The amino acid theanine in gunpowder tea also helps to minimize some of the side effects of cancer treatment.

The health benefits are the same as any green tea - but more bcs the leaves are tightly rolled so they would be less exposed to light, thereby maintaining more nutrients and compounds.

And it is very cool to watch the leaves uncurl as they steep.
