Cocaine is a highly addictive drug that gives a short-term high with long-term side effects. As soon as the high wears off, the need for more keeps getting worse. If cocaine is absorbed through the skin, there could be damaging effects to the skin and other parts of the body. There are four ways in which cocaine can be administered: snorting, injecting, absorption and smoking. The cocaine can be snorted and absorbed through the nasal tissues, injected directly into the blood stream, absorbed through the skin, or inhaled as smoke or vapors into the lungs. Cocaine users will feel a temporary sense of power, euphoria, increased energy, excitement and a decreased sensation of pain. Physical effects can include dilated pupils, nausea, vomiting or dizziness. Those who use cocaine for a long period of time will have recurrent nosebleeds and diseases of the nasal passages. If the user injected the cocaine, there will be scars and/or scabs from the injection sites. Cocaine can also damage skin tissues and create ulcers within the body. Using cocaine can cause a number of infections. Some of these infections will cause cellulitis, jaundice, hepatitis, HIV, redness, and inflammation at the injection site. Stopping the drug is not easy but can be done. There may be drying and crusting on the skin that can be treated by using a topical antibiotic. Other problems are runny nose, nose bleeds, chronic cough and anxiety.Types of Administration
