People can die from alcohol withdraw so they need to be in a hospital or rehab center that knows how to treat them. Usually a person goes through withdraw within 2 days of not drinking. Good Luck.

Xanax got me detoxed.But it's absolutely a bad idea if there is still alcohol in the system.Xanax will help with the shakes after a day or two of being dry.But if you give someone Xanax or any Benzo they might feel relaxed enough to go get a drink,and then that could be big trouble.(So are hidden bottles).Yes Benzos are addictive,but if someone is REALLY stopping drinking,small doses of Benzos are a lot less damaging than a fifth of booze a day.Without all of those calories from alcohol,your appetite returns.

There is no best way to detox someone from alcoholism but if they are willing to get better please see the following website they did a great job with my Uncle.
