Orzo is an Italian pasta shaped like rice. It is very popular in Greece, but is also commonly eaten in the Mediterranean, Middle East and parts of Europe. The word "orzo" is Italian for "barley." Some other common names for orzo are kritharaki, pasta gallo pion, reiskornpasta, manestra and rosa marina. Orzo contains about 275 calories, 5 g of fat and 1 g of saturated fat per serving, so it is a healthy choice for a snack or a full meal. Orzo is often used in soups and casseroles and added to sauces with meats and fish. Common orzo dishes include Italian Wedding Soup, orzo and wild rice salad, and minty orzo and peas. Most orzo is made of durum semolina, which is a hard variety of wheat. Different variations of orzo that have been created over time are spring medley, lemon garlic, sweet potato, black calamari, southwest blend, Mediterranean, black bean, autumn orzo, to name a few. Orzo pasta is a relatively inexpensive food product, averaging $3 per pound. Specialty flavors and colors are often priced higher, at around $5 to $7 per pound. Greek Internet Market: Orzo PriceName
