    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Charlie Muse, who worked in many capacities for the Pittsburgh Pirates for 52 years, invented the baseball batting helmet in the early 1950s. Muse teamed with Ralph Davia and a designer named Bill Crick to come up with the helmet at the prodding of former Pirates general manager Branch Rickey.
