HD DVD, or high definition Digital Video Discs, is a format for delivering high-definition movies to home theaters. It was initially proposed by Toshiba and rivaled the Sony Blu-ray format. Alternatively, it may be used as a generic term to refer to any disc that can contain a full movie in high definition video.
