Once new sod has been laid, fertilizer can be applied four weeks later. Use a complete fertilizer with a formula of 12-12-12, as suggested by Purdue University. This will provide the three major plant nutrients--nitrogen, phosphate and potash--necessary to help the sod grow.Source:
