The Stack & Tilt golf swing is a new swing technique. Instructors Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett determined that a golfer could hit the golf ball with more power and accuracy by keeping his weight positioned on his front foot during the swing. The Stack & Tilt has even caught on with many professional golfers, who regard it as an edge in the highly competitive world of pro golf. The premise behind the Stack and Tilt is simple. For a right-handed player, the left foot is considered the forward foot. The typical golf swing requires the player to shift his weight to the right, and onto his back foot, as he starts the golf swing. Once the club is properly extended, the player starts the downswing and his weight begins to shift back to his front foot. Plummer and Bennett decided to eliminate the initial weight shift to the right. Their Stack & Tilt method encourages the player to maintain weight on the front foot. This is called remaining "stacked" over the ball before preparing to hit it. As he begins to swing, the player maintains weight on his left foot by tilting his body forward, or left, during the back swing. Such tilting of the spine angle doesn't occur during the regular golf swing, and that is another big difference in the Stack & Tilt. After remaining "stacked" over the ball and tilting forward during the backswing, the player finishes the swing normally. However, Plummer and Bennett maintain that these subtle changes enable players to strike the ball with better control. As with most changes in golf, the Stack & Tilt can be difficult to master. Professional players making swing changes spend weeks and months on the adjustments. Some will practice several hours a day, in addition to playing. Amateur players considering the Stack & Tilt will have to decide if they want to invest the time required to learn the new swing.Professional Golfers
