    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

In 1923, Calvin Coolidge presided over the first White House tree lighting ceremony to feature an electrically lit tree. Outdoor lights were marketed to the public in 1925, but cost was prohibitive, and bulb life was short. By the 1950s, outdoor lighting was widespread in America.
