Dust off your old LPs (long-playing records) and let them live again by transferring their music to CDs. There are a couple methods to use to transfer LPs to CDs, including a turntable, a computer and the right software. You can purchase a newer turntable that has a USB port built into it. You connect these turntables to your computer with a USB cable. If you have an older turntable that works, you can purchase a USB preamp, which makes it possible to digitally record LPs from your turntable. You will need the right type of software to convert the music on the LPs into digital files. Golden Records is one software product that is available for both Mac and PC. Audacity is a free software that is available for Mac and PC as well as Linux. You will need to make sure that your computer's processor is able to handle the software you choose. To run Audacity using Windows Vista Home Basic, you will need at least 512 MB RAM and a 1 GHz processor. A Mac requires at least 64 MB RAM and a 300 MHz processor. Once you have the files on your computer, you will need to burn them to CD. Your computer may already have a CD burning program installed. If not, you will need to download or purchase one.USB Turntables
