Acrylic nail powder is the basic ingredient used to create those beautiful false nails which many women love. It's used in nail salons around the world, but there are risks that come with its use.
Acrylic Nail Powder
Acrylic nail powder is a type of polymer powder. When it's combined with monomer liquid, it creates a hard, acrylic resin.
Ingredients
Acrylic nail powder is made of a mixture of methyl methacrylate and ethyl methacrylate. It makes a perfect substance for fake nails, because it is very flexible. It's also very strong, functioning the way a natural nail would.
Chemical Reaction
When monomer liquid is added to acrylic nail powder, a chemical reaction occurs, forming polymer strands. These harden. As they harden, they can be shaped into a fingernail form. This mixture can be added to other types of fake fingernails to obtain different effects.
Appearance
Dyes, pigments and other chemicals can be added to the acrylic powder to create a certain color or appearance.
Risks
The use of acrylic nail powder brings certain health risks. The residue left behind can cause inflammation and redness in the area. Some people develop severe allergic reactions to the acrylic powder.
