  • Super Bowl Sunday has become a type of national holiday in the United States. Many people hold parties, and there are several staples of a Super Bowl party that you can find anywhere you go. Start with a crockpot of chili, throw in the chips and dip and add in the cold beer. But what will really give your Super Bowl party some spice is a betting pool that will keep everyone focused on the game--even if they aren't big football fans.

    First Touchdown

As your guests come into the party, have them pay an entry fee of $5 (or whatever amount you choose). Once the fee is paid, the guests will stick a hand in a jar and pull out a piece of paper. Each piece of paper will have a name of a player from either team on it. The person who pulls out the name of the player who scores the first touchdown wins the pool. Before your guests come, write down the names of the quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends from both teams. Then write down AFC defense, NFC defense, AFC special teams, NFC special teams, AFC other and NFC other. This way every possibility for the first touchdown is covered. The person who pulls out the winning name wins the prize pool.

    Square Pool

Have a square pool ready to go when your guests arrive. Write down the digits 0 through 10 across the top of a piece of paper with the letters AFC on top of it and the same numbers down the side with the letters NFC next to it. Divide the paper into a grid with 100 squares. Each guest can buy up to five squares at whatever price you determine. Let's say one of your guests has a square with the NFC number 5 and an AFC number 7. Those numbers correspond to the last digit of each team's final score. If the NFC team wins the game 35-27, that guest will win the score pool because he had the matching final digits of each conference representative's final score. This can be a very exciting game because it can come down to a late touchdown or a final kick to determine the winner.

    Longest Touchdown

Write down the numbers 1 through 10 on separate cards. Add in cards with 11-15, 16-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, 50-60, 61-70, 71-80 and 80 or more. The person who selects the card that corresponds with the longest touchdown wins the pool. Each guest who participates can pay $5 (or whatever amount you want) and the winner takes all.
