Mouse finger is a serious condition that occurs when a person repetitively uses their index finger to click on the computer mouse. Mouse finger is also very similar to carpel tunnel syndrome and the treatments are similar as well.
Epsom Salts
Using Epsom salts, along with warm or cold water, to soak your hand can be beneficial in reducing swelling. To ease pains place an ice pack underneath the wrist or on top of the index finger joint.
Medications
Medications such as naproxen or ibuprofen, which are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, can be used to treat aches and pain of mouse finger.
Splints
Wearing a splint for several weeks at night and/or during the day can be beneficial in treating mouse finger. Applying cold or hot compresses can be helpful.
Ergonomic Aids
Purchase a new ergonomically designed computer mouse so you do not lift your finger to click. Also, try using a padded mouse pad to take the pressure off your wrist and finger while clicking.
Surgery
Surgery is a procedure that will relieve the pressure and pain and is the last option in treating mouse finger and/or carpal tunnel. Surgery is required in more than 50 percent of cases.
