  • Ventrilo, or also commonly referred to as Vent, is a breakthrough voice communication software often used for gaming and voice conferencing. This free software is easy to use, and any level of computer user can create their server within minutes. There are a few programs that must be downloaded throughout, but all of them can be found on the Ventrilo site.

    Setup

Go the the Ventrilo site to start. Along the left-hand side, look for the Downloads section, where you will find the pieces to begin building your dedicated server. Inside Downloads, find the server program title Windowsi386-32 bit and download it. (Also, now would be a good time to download the normal Ventrilo program, and install it for later use if you don't have it already.) Install the setup for this program onto your hard drive. Once the install is complete, go into your Applications and it will be in a folder called SRVent. The Ventrilo software will be inside here, open it. You will get an MS-Dos screen, which will open your server.

    Finding Your IP

You can find your IP by going to the What's My IP? site, or if you already know it, all the better. This will be your host name for the Ventrilo server that you will give out and allow people to connect to the server. Now go into the normal Ventrilo program in your Applications and open it. Click on the "Connect to Server" button, and enter in your IP and port number 3784. Click OK and then you will be connected to your own Ventrilo server to make sure that it worked. To adjust your password, go to the SRVent folder in your Applications and edit the INI file. This will give you a list of commands for the folder, and you can go to Password and put whatever you wish your password to be in this spot. When giving out your Vent server info, you will give the user your IP address and the password if you choose one.
