Generally, PC4200 memory will not work in a computer that has PC3200 memory installed. Most PC3200 memory is of a type called DDR-SDRAM, while PC4200--correctly referred to as PC2-4200--is DDR2-SDRAM. The two types of memory are physically incompatible. However, there is a type of DDR2-SDRAM called PC2-3200, which will work with PC2-4200 memory in some computers. PC2-3200 desktop memory has 240 pins, while PC-3200 memory has 184.
