Perfume is created by mixing several essential oils in alcohol.
Essential Oils
Oils derived from cultivated or wild-harvested plants. Different oils can be distilled from a plant's stem, leaves or flower. Oils can range in quality from sweet, spicy, citrusy woodsy, pungent and musty.
Perfume
Bergamot, cinnamon, cypress, rose, grapefruit, jasmine, lavender, lemon grass, lilac, myrrh, orange and patchouli are some of the essential oils used to make perfume.
Musty Smell
Predominately patchouli and myrrh give off a musty smell. Some senses might also experience sandalwood as musty.
Patchouli Perfumes
Perfumes containing patchouli include J'ai Osé (Guy Laroche), Pleasures (Estée Lauder), Eternity (Calvin Klein), Miss Dior (Christian Dior) and White Patchouli (Tom Ford Beauty).
Myrrh Perfumes
Perfumes containing myrrh include Gucci Pour Homme II (Gucci for Men), Grand Amour (Annick Goutal), Midnight (Lolita Lempicka) and Balmain Ambre Gris (Balmain for Women).
