Fort Duquesne (1754-1758), a French fort in western Pennsylvania, saw considerable action during the French and Indian War. British Gen. Edward Braddock (with aide George Washington) was crushed at the Battle of the Monongahela while trying to take the fort in 1755. British Gen. John Forbes captured Duquesne in 1758 (renamed Fort Pitt).
