  • A baby shower allows family and friends to celebrate the upcoming birth of a baby and give gifts to the mother-to-be for use once the baby arrives. Throwing a baby shower requires a significant amount of planning but is also a very kind gesture to the expectant mother. If you are throwing a Chinese-themed baby shower, you can incorporate your theme into almost every aspect of the party including the invitations, food served and favors given to guests.

    Inviting Guests

Establish the theme of the Chinese baby shower in the party's invitations. Pre-made invitations with Asian overtones are available in many stores. If you choose to make your own invitations, consider using traditional Chinese colors such as red, gold and black and using a font that looks Asian. Buy Chinese character stamps in a craft store and use them as an accent on the envelopes or the invitations themselves. Ask for an attendee list from the mother to make sure all of her closest friends and family are invited to the party. Plan to send out the invitations about six weeks before the party to give guests enough time to RSVP and purchase any gifts.

    Food and Drinks

Depending on what time you are throwing the baby shower you should provide guests with either a full meal or plenty of light appetizers and snacks. Serve Chinese food to go with the theme and make sure to provide enough variety that everyone finds something they like to eat. You can have the meal catered by your favorite Chinese restaurant, cook the meal yourself or ask each guest to bring their favorite Chinese dish for a potluck-style meal. Consider serving food on Chinese-themed paper plates and providing Chinese-themed cups for drinks. Make sure to provide non-alcoholic drinks, as doctors advise pregnant women against drinking during pregnancy.

    Shower Favors

It is considered polite to send guests home with a token of appreciation for attending the baby shower and sharing the experience with the mother-to-be. Paper Chinese takeout boxes are available in most craft stores and make for fun containers to hold a variety of things. You can fill the boxes with a favorite candy, baked goods or even a key chain or other item of your choosing. Consider buying pink or blue takeout boxes depending on if the mother is expecting a baby boy or girl. You can also decorate the boxes with pink or blue ribbon for an added personal touch.
