Verizon Wireless has a third generation (3G) network based on Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A. This technology was put into use in February 2007.
Transfer Speeds
This technology has fast download speeds of 600 to 1,400 kilobits of data per second. Upload speeds range from 500 to 800 kilobits of data per second.
V-Cast
V-Cast is Verizon's high-speed mobile entertainment service based on EV-DO. V-Cast allows users to watch video and stream music.
V-Cast Music With Rhapsody
Verizon partnered with the Rhapsody music service to develop a music service that users could use over the EV-DO network to purchase music for use on their phone and their PC.
Always On
Verizon's EV-DO is an always-on technology so users can get broadband speed wherever they have a 3G signal.
Secure Data
Verizon's EV-DO service is encrypted so users can connect to their corporate data networks to get data files and e-mails without worrying about someone intercepting the information.
