  • A tri-fold mirror is useful for a variety of reasons. Sometimes you just want to see the clasp of the chain to be able to fasten it. Maybe you want to see the zipper of that dress to secure it. Possibly you just want to see how those jeans actually look. No matter what your need is, you can make this mirror in what ever size you have the need and space for.

    Select Mirrors

Purchase or reuse mirrors in the size that would work best for you. For the simplicity of these instructions, we will be making a table top version. It will work better if the mirrors you choose have a frame or you add a frame to them. By removing the glass from a picture frame you can easily put in a mirror for an instant frame.

    Install Hinges

The tri-fold mirror has the primary mirror with two additional mirrors, one on each side. Lay the central mirror face down and arrange the others to the sides, also face down. Place the hinges on the back side of the mirrors and use a pencil to mark where the holes are. You should use one hinge about every 12 inches. For tabletop mirrors, you should place one hinge within 3 inches from the top and bottom of the frames. Before you attach the hinges, make sure that they open the right way. They should attach so the side mirrors are opening away from the center mirror.

    Stand or Install

Once the hinges are installed you can then set the mirrors on the vanity or install the center mirror on the wall. If you place on the vanity, take care not to open the outside mirrors too far without supporting the center mirror or it may fall.
