According to Mayo Clinic experts, HGH or Human Growth Hormone is produced in the body's pituitary gland and production slows down some time during middle age. While elevated levels of HGH may lead to excessive hair growth, there is no evidence that is causes hair loss.
HGH injections
Mayo Clinic notes that HGH injections can be used to treat clearly diagnosed growth hormone deficiencies and muscle waste from HIV. Side effects of injection treatment may include: decreased body fat; increased bone density and muscle mass; increased endurance; and hair growth.
Causes of hair loss
While HGH does not cause hair loss, FamilyDoc.org lists a variety of possible causes including: hormone imbalance; scalp infection; child birth; medication side effects; and disease.
HGH cautions
BBC News reports that original forms of injectable HGH was taken from the pituitary glands of deceased people and there were problems with disease transmission. Modern, synthetic HGH is free of the possible infective agents.
Synthetic HGH
Mayo Clinic experts verify that synthetic HGH is available by prescription only and should be administered under the supervision of a physician. Although many suggest it may have anti-aging properties, there are no long-term studies to support the idea that HGH may be the fountain of youth.
HGH and the FDA
The WorldHealth.net site notes that HGH is the most rigorously and extensively tested adult hormone replacement drug on the market, because of the intense scrutiny on it from both the FDA and the CDC.
