According to "Earth Easy," an electric stove can be cost efficient if it bears the "Energy Star" label. Using the right stove, along with changing to some economical cooking habits, can bring your energy costs down significantly.
On the Other: Gas Alternative Can Cost Less
Although prices for utilities differ greatly from state to state, the website "Saving Electricity" studied the average difference in cost efficiency, using a gas vs. electric stove. An electric stovetop burner was more than twice as expensive to operate as its gas counterpart. The electric oven was about 25 percent cheaper to operate than the gas oven.
Bottom Line
The electric stove's cost is approximately 20-25% more to operate a year than its gas alternative, according to the comparisons made by "Mr. Electricity". When considering the price of gas and electricity in your area, it may only mean the difference of a dollar or two a month for the cost of the electric stove over the gas to operate.
