<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Brown and Sage Green
One of the most complementary colors to sage green is any kind of brown shade. The intensity of the brown that will work best is the one that best mimics the intensity of the sage green chosen. If the sage is more of a pastel tone, then tan will be the best complement. If the sage has a darker green tone, a more coffee colored brown will be the best complement. Overall, sage is simply green with brown added, so brown is a good complement color.
On the Other: Red and Sage Green
Complementary colors are ones that are across from each other on the artist's color wheel. The color that is across from green is red--therefore they complements one another. With the sage tone, burgundy would be an appropriate complementary tone. Since these two colors are very close, it would be a good idea to add in a simple buffer color between them such as white.
Bottom Line
Since red and green, although complementary, can bring up thoughts of the Christmas season, sage and tan is clearly the better color combination. Adding white as a third color into this mix can also complement the tan and sage and help to make a more cohesive palate.
