<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Alltel Uses Restrictive Technology
Critics of Alltel claim that the company's reliance on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology limits the selection of phones compatible with its network. Although CDMA technology supports higher speeds for wireless data transfer than other technologies, many manufacturers develop phones for carriers that use the Global System for Mobile communications (GSM).
On the Other: Alltel Has Some Popular Phones
Although Alltel relies on CDMA technology, PC Magazine identified a number of popular and useful phones compatible with the company's network. According to a PC magazine article, popular phones like the touch screen HTC Touch and the popular Motorola Razr flip phone work well on Alltel service.
Bottom Line
Different users define "good phones" by different standards, but manufacturers offer a number of popular and reliable phones for use on the Alltel network.
