This card is basically an expansion card inside the computer that allows more parts (specifically hard drives and disk drives) to be connected to the motherboard. The motherboard is basically the main part of any computer, and all other parts (the processor, hard drive, disk drives, and so on) are plugged into it. However, when slots for hard drives and disk drives in the motherboard are all in use (or were never built into the motherboard at all, which is the case with some older motherboards), this card adds an extra one.
