  • There is nothing worse then moving into a new home or buying a new cell phone and realizing the two won't work together due to poor reception. But all is not lost: there are a number of ways to remedy this and get better cell phone reception in your home.

    Search Good Mobile Carriers

You may have to switch mobile carriers, but before doing so go online and search a number of websites, such as cellreception.com, which will tell you about the cell towers in your area. They will also tell you which cell phone company offers the best cell reception in your area so that you don't have to test multiple cell phone companies.

    Cellular Repeaters

Buy a piece of equipment called a cellular repeater, which boosts the signal strength of cellular devices in office buildings, apartment complexes and homes. These devices are not cheap, costing between $350 and $1,000. You should buy a cellular repeater that's approved by your cell carrier; check with the carrier to make sure it works with your specific phone and their service. An antennae must be installed on the roof of your home to pick up the signals.

    Homemade Antennae

There are homemade solutions which are not guaranteed to work but are worth considering. Look for the external antennae jack on your phone, which is usually covered by a small rubber piece. Pry that piece off the phone and you will find a portal to plug in an external antennae. Bend a paper clip or piece of wire into a 90-degree angle and stick one end into the portal. This may improve your cell reception.
