Accounting is a versatile degree. The principles of accounting are useful for any business owner. With an accounting degree, you can find jobs in public firms, companies, government agencies, or schools.
Public Accounting
With a degree in accounting, you can work for a public accounting firm. These firms do a variety of accounting work, including tax, environmental, forensic and international accounting.
Corporate Accounting
Companies of all sizes and in all industries hire accountants. As a corporate accountant, you can help the company of your choice with its finances, taxes and auditing.
Government Accounting
Government agencies need accountants to help with auditing, financial reporting, budget analysis and research. As a government accountant, you could work for agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service or the Department of the Treasury.
Education
An accountant can work as a teacher, researcher or consultant for universities and colleges. A doctorate in accounting and a high GPA is generally required to get into this field.
Non-profit Organizations
Non-profit organizations need accountants as well. You could work for social service organizations, hospitals, school systems, religious organizations or political parties.
