<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Extramarital Relationships Are Healthy
A married man will socially benefit from interpersonal relationships with both men and women. Geoffrey Graff, author of "Buddy System: Understanding Male Friendships," explains that "if men can improve the number and quality of their friendships, they may live longer and healthier lives." Many men are able to establish platonic relationships with other women and talk with them frequently.
On the Other: Other Relationships Can Cause Tension
A 2006 study conducted for the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago explains that 22 percent of married men have cheated on their wives at least once; because of this, natural jealous tendencies can arise within the wife, leading to increased tension in the marriage.
Bottom Line
A married man should only talk for hours with another woman if his wife is comfortable with him doing so. To avoid marital issues, the man should openly discuss this relationship with his wife and proceed with the relationship only with her consent.
