<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Effective Home Remedy
A facial mask made with crushed aspirin has been said to be effective in reducing acne. Aspirin contains salicylic acid, which is also an ingredient in many over-the-counter acne creams and facial washes. Salicylic acid is an anti-inflammatory agent that reduces swelling and redness. Crushed aspirin can be mixed with water to make a paste, applied to the face and washed off.
On the Other: Take Precautions
If you're allergic to aspirin or any of its ingredients, don't use it on your face. Salicylic acid treatments can make your skin especially sensitive to the sun, so make sure to use sunscreen when going outdoors. The rough texture of the aspirin mask can be hard on dry or sensitive skin. Consult a dermatologist for advice.
Bottom Line
Not all acne treatments will work for everyone, but with the low price and wide availability of aspirin, it's worth a try as long as the ingredients won't irritate your skin. Salicylic acid is also found in many other acne-care products, so if the aspirin mask doesn't work for you, another over-the-counter product might.
