<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Importance of Motorcycle Spark Plugs
Motorcycle spark plugs cause the fuel/air mixture in a bike's engine to ignite, which causes the combustion that powers the engine. They also suck heat out of the engine so that it does not overheat. To do this, they must be properly gapped, non-corroded, and in good working order.
On the Other: Specialty Tools Necessary
Changing spark plugs requires a specialty spark plug socket and a spark plug gapping tool, not to mention the proper new spark plug for a specific bike. It is essential to have the correct spark plug for each engine.
Bottom Line
Spark plugs should be changed at the motorcycle manufacturer's suggested intervals for optimal performance and to avoid potentially costly repair bills in the future. Due to the specialty tools and somewhat specialized knowledge required, this may be something owners either attempt themselves, or pay mechanics to do instead.
