  • Pocanontas died on March 21, 1617. Contemporaneous documents are not clear as to whether she died of Small Pox or some other infection. Small Pox virus has an incubation period of twelve days. If the symptomatic period preceding death was seven days, then the onset of symptoms can be estimated to have started around March 14, 1617. The twelve-day incubation period would put exposure somewhere around March 2, 1617.
