Starz Entertainment launched Vongo in 2006 as one of the first subscription movie services on the Internet. This service allowed users unlimited streaming of their catalog of entertainment media. Starz now operates Vongo under a different name.
Features
At the time of Vongo's launch, its library contained over 1,600 movie and television titles, according to CNet. Starz charged $9.99 per month for unlimited access to this collection.
Considerations
Even though Starz offered unlimited access, some of the best titles, especially new releases, required the user to pay another fee on top of the monthly charge.
Benefits
During the period when it remained active, Vongo offered one of the few ways to rent movies or watch pay-per-view titles without going to a brick and mortar store--in addition to being cheaper than a land-based rental service.
Removing Vongo
Since Starz no longer uses Vongo software, users might want to consider removing it. To do this, people will need to use Microsoft's Windows Installer CleanUp Utility if the "Add or Remove Programs" feature on Windows does not successfully uninstall it. (See Resources.)
Starz Play
Instead of Vongo, Starz uses Starz Play for its streaming media, as of 2010. Starz Play costs $5.99 per month for subscribers of Verizon's Internet services, and $9.99 per month for everyone else.
