Most people have heard of migraines, but are unaware that there are several different types: common, classic and complicated. The complicated migraine is the least common but most severe type of migraine.
Nervous System
Complicated migraines are primarily differentiated from common and classic migraines by the fact that complicated migraines affect the nervous system.
Stroke-Like Symptoms
Complicated migraines can cause stroke-like symptoms, such as tingling, loss of sensation and/or paralysis over one side of the body, but do not last very long, unlike those that occur in stroke victims.
Cognitive Difficulties
Complicated migraines have been known to result in cognitive disturbances such as an inability to speak, loss of memory and behavioral changes.
Headache
Unlike with the other types of migraine, a headache does not always accompany a complicated migraine, which sometimes results in individuals being unaware that they are suffering from a migraine.
Acephalgic
Acephalgic migraines are a type of complicated migraine--the most common type--in which there are passing visual changes but no headache.
